Upcoming Class at Scrappy Chic

G45 Safari Layout

Get ready to scrap your pictures from the zoo, safari or wild family in this fun class at Scrappy Chic.

We’ll create a 12×12, 2-page layout using Graphic 45’s new paper — and you will go home with additional pieces to create a card or add to another project or layout.

As always, most everything will be precut, so this will only take an hour on July 20 at 6 p.m.

Contact the store for details and to register.

See you there!

Birthday Card Class

Join me as we create five cards — all relatively flat for easy mailing — using Echo Park’s new party line in this class at Scrappy Chic. The class is Wednesday, June 29 at 2 p.m. Get the details, here.

Be sure to call the store at 248-426-9020 to register and make sure I have enough supplies. See you there!

It’s been a while …

It has been more than two weeks since my last post … I cannot believe how time has flown.

Although my blog may disagree, I have not been ignoring my job. Rather, I have been working day and night — or so it feels — creating things to sell.

altered spoons by candy spiegel

I have been making garden fancies, altered cans and altered spoons for craft shows. This was a quick snap shot before packing them up last weekend.

And, I have been working on page kits …

I still have lots to do and more to make … fingers crossed I’ll be participating in a large craft show next month.

I’ve also been doing a bit of number crunching and soul searching … I’m changing things up a bit with my retail business. To make room for new stock, I’ll be doing grab bags during the crop this weekend at Holy Family in Grand Blanc. Stop by for some GREAT deals!!

And, I promise to get back to tutorials and ideas ASAP!

A Lovely Banner

Love by Candy SpiegelI created this banner with inexpensive coasters, Authentique paper and designs made with my Cricut and QuicKutz dies.

Want to make one just like it? I’m offering it as a class in Brighton at the Green Door Studio on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Call 810.225.9190 to register.

Countdown to Christmas

Christmas Countdown_Candy_SpiegelMy latest creation is one I have been wanting for many years … a perpetual countdown to Christmas.

This calendar is one of the wood designs from KaiserCraft. If you have been following me for a while, you know how much I love their wood projects. They come in pieces so they are easy to cover and I glue them all together with Art Glitter’s Designer Dries Clear Adhesive. I have several shelves and boxes that I have made with these kits and they have survived years of use.

Anyhow, this one I covered with brand new papers from Anna Griffin. I have always loved her designs, but few stores seem to carry them. Now that I have my own store (of sorts), I ordered them.

055The tree is covered in a silver print filled with ferns, leaves and greenery. As an accent, I used a cream-colored snowflake print in gold and silver.

057And, because my husband insisted that Christmas projects be red and green, I added a bit of green holly paper to the base and the blocks.

Anna Griffin didn’t create any new red papers that I wanted to use, so I opted for a textured red cardstock to finish it off.

I used my Cricut to cut out the numbers and a combination of Tim Holtz dies and Martha Stewart punches to create the accents.

Of course, I also used a bit of paint, lace, ribbon and Stickles to make it really sparkle.

Wouldn’t you like to have one of your own?! You can! I am offering this as a class at Green Door Studio or as a kit with step-by-step instructions and photos.

However, I only have 6 kits available, so let me know as soon as possible if you are interested!

‘Tis the Season Classes

It is my favorite time of the year and I have been creating many items to celebrate the season. I hope you will enjoy me for some of these classes.

Check the calendar at the right for details and locations.

Mason jar_candy_spiegelThis, one of my favorites, is a mason jar snow globe. We’ll create a special mix to color a bottle brush tree and learn how to create a beautiful snowflake rosette. And, you can customize yours to fit your decor by making your tree red, green, purple, blue, navy or pink! I’m teaching this one at Green Door Studio in Brighton.

gift_cards_Candy_SpiegelNext up is a fun and easy class that will provide you with four unique gift-card holders in a variety of styles. Some papers may vary, or you can swap them out if you prefer something different. Of course, we’ll also learn how to dry emboss, ink, use flock and Piccolo embossing powder. This one is also offered in Brighton.

candy_spiegel_Copic1Next up is this adorable bookmark. We’re focusing on Copics in this class. No experience is necessary … I will teach you how to blend, buy, use and store Copics and then we will put our new techniques to use by making this project. In addition to coloring the stamped scene, we’ll learn to color rhinestones, eyelets and ribbons. You don’t even need to buy Copics to take this class. Just come and see what they are all about. This one is taught at Crop ‘N Shop in Burton.

christmas paper bag album 001Up next is a paper bag mini album. This book is packed with interactive pages, pockets and tags featuring beautiful papers from KaiserCraft. We’ll make snowflake rosettes for the cover and accent it with gold-foil papers, beads and elegant ribbons. Trust me, the photo does not do this book justice. Anyway, in addition to making the book, you will go home with tons of paper and die cuts to make cards or scrapbook layouts. It is a great value! This class is being held in Millington at Scrapbooker’s Hideaway.

Elizabeth_candy_spiegelNext we have two beautiful cards using products from Elizabeth Crafts. Learn to emboss Shimmer Sheetz and color glitter! You can use Copics, Ranger’s Distress Ink Markers or Tombow markers to do this technique. This class is in Brighton in Green Door Studio.

gift_cards_candy_spiegelIn this fun class, you will make 6 mini cards (they come with mini envelopes, too) as well as a coordinating box to keep them all in. Mini cards are fun to use in place of gift tags or to send a quick note to a neighbor or friend. Or, you can wrap up the entire package and give it as a gift to a teacher or family member. This class is held in Brighton at Green Door Studio.

Remember, I also teach private classes and small group classes. Just drop me a note and let me know what you are interested in. I can customize any class to fit your group. Contact me at candyspiegel@yahoo.com.

Back in Brighton

After several years, I am finally teaching in Brighton again!

I am so excited to be teaching at my friend’s new shop, Green Door Studio. They are located at Hacker Road and Grand River Avenue in Brighton — just a few miles from where Scrap Tales used to be!

I have three classes scheduled so far with several more in the works. Here’s a peek:

Copic: Skin and Hair

Copic skin classI finally sat down long enough to put together the class I get the most requests for … coloring skin and hair.

In this class, we will learn some tips on coloring to make images come alive. I’ll also provide some of my favorite color combinations. Students will also leave the class with a blank hair-and-skin chart and some stamped images to practice on.

Contact Capture A Memory to register.

Altered Cricut Box Class

I keep my Cricut cartridges in a binder, but for some reason, I hung onto a few of the boxes the cartridges used to come in. I guess I just thought they were too cool to throw away.

Well, I finally put them to use with a new class I am offering at Capture A Memory in Flint Township.

altered cricut box by Candy SpiegelIn this class, we will use Distress Ink and Perfect Pearls Mists to color Bazzill Basics Paper and then cover the box in it. Then we will make tiles with Graphic 45 paper and Glastique. Finally, we will add Tim Holtz stamps, Tissue Tape and metal pieces, a few buttons and some ribbon.

I will bring lots of different colors of ink, a variety of ribbon and a jar of buttons so you will be able to make your box perfect for you.

I only have 5 boxes, so this will be a small class filled with techniques and tips.
